If you like brunch, and fried chicken, you need to check out Hash House A Go Go in the Gold Coast. This place is insane. Hash House A Go Go was vaguely on my radar. I think that I had seen a couple of photos on Instagram, and I had driven by a few times on my way to The Pump Room, but I never thought to stop in. When their PR team asked invited me to check out the restaurant I didn't expect to be blown away, but I was.

It had been a rough week at the 9-5 job. My co-worker and I needed to escape, so the invitation to dine at HHAGG was perfectly timed. We fled the office on a Friday and took retreat from the rain at the cool casual restaurant filled with Kansas City Royals fans (they must have been playing the Cubs that day). My coworker had heard good things about the Chicken and Waffles, so she knew what to order before she even took a peek at the menu.

According to our waitress, the Chicken and Waffles is the most popular dish on the menu, and I can see why. Sometimes waffles can be dense and lack-luster but these waffles managed to be light and fluffy. The waffles were stacked high, fried chicken is piled on top, and the tower of food is finished with some fried leeks.

I ordered the other most popular item on the menu, the Sage Fried Chicken Farm Benedict, and it was aggressive amount of food. There is a lot going on in this photo, so let me break it down for you. Homemade biscuits sit on a bed of mashed potatoes, and are stacked with spinach, tomato, bacon, fried chicken, scrambled eggs, and fried mozzarella. Then it is drown in a creamy spicy chipotle sauce.

Our conversation went something like this, "This fried chicken is SO GOOD."...silence as we eat .... "Oh my god, this chicken!" .... more silence... "I am so full and can't stop eating." I will say that the mashed potatoes on my meal seemed unnecessary. They were good, but I think that thick cut biscuits and mashed potatoes is a bit much. I really enjoyed the chipotle sauce whose heat slowly built up as you ate. It made the meal complete.

We couldn't come close to finishing our meals. It was just way too much food. I surrendered by fork leaving almost half my food on the plate. There is one thing that I will do different next time I dine at Hash House A Go Go. I will bring a third person to help consume the two gigantic portions.

Hash House A Go Go can be found at 1212 North State, in the Gold Coast.
