I have been eagerly awaiting The Great Gatsby film. Of course I dug out my copy of the book and reread it. Not only did I reread it, I answered the question anyone hosting a Gatsby theme party is thinking right now: What did the characters eat and drink? Below is a complete list of which foods and drinks were mentioned in the book.

Drinks
Whiskey: Served at Myrtle's party at the New York Apartment (chapter 2) and at the hotel in New York (chapter 7).
Champagne: Served at Gatsby's party (chapter 3).
Gins, liqueurs and cordials: Served at Gatsby's party (chapter 3).
Highballs (a cocktail of Whiskey and Ginger Ale): Served at lunch Gatsby had with Nick and Mr. Wolfsheim in New York (chapter 4).
Tea: Nick had Daisy and Gatsby over for tea (chapter 5).
Mint Juleps: Gatsby, Nick, Daisy, Tom, and Jordan drink these at the hotel in New York (chapter 7).
Ale: Tom and Daisy sit in the kitchen with ale and bowl of fried chicken between them after the accident. Neither of them ate or drank (chapter 7).

Food:
"Celebrated sandwiches which were a complete supper in themselves" were served at Myrtle's party at the New York Apartment (chapter 2).
Spiced Baked Hams: Served at Gatsby's party (chapter 3).
Salads "of harlequin designs": Served at Gatsby's party (chapter 3).
Pastry Pigs and Turkeys: Served at Gatsby's party (chapter 3).
Lemon Cakes: Nick served these when he had Daisy and Gatsby over for tea (chapter 5). ** I have a great recipe for these!
Fried Chicken: Tom and Daisy sit in the kitchen with ale and bowl of fried chicken between them after the accident. Neither of them ate or drank (chapter 7).

I think I will serve highballs, champagne punch, finger sandwiches, and lemon cakes at my party.

If I missed anything let me know in the comments.

Thanks for this! I'd been looking all over for Great Gatsby food. I know what I'll be serving at my so-themed party in a couple of weeks! x
