No Bake Nutella Pie

Published: Aug 4, 2020 by Kit · This post may contain affiliate links · 5 Comments

It would be impossible to over exaggerate how delicious this pie no bake Nutella Pie is. It’s simply magical, both in taste, and the fact that it takes only 15 minutes of active preparation time. My friends thought that this pie tastes similar to chocolate silk pie – but its so much easier to make.

Pour the whipping cream into the bowl of an electric mixer. Add the granulated sugar and vanilla. Beat on a higher speed until the cream is at the same stiffness you would want for whipped cream. Add the cream cheese, Nutella, and powdered sugar and mix until well incorporated. Pour the pie filling into the pie crusts, and place the pies in the fridge to chill for 4 hours, or put them in the freezer for an hour. Just before serving, make some whipped cream. Place the whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a bowl of an electric mixer. Beat on a medium speed until medium peaks form. Spread on top of the pie, and slice and serve.

This pie comes together in no time, but you do need to let it chill before serving. If you are in a rush, freezing it for an hour will do the trick.

I usually make pie crust, but since I was going to a friend’s house I thought it would be easier to buy pie crusts so that I wouldn’t need to worry about getting my pie pan back. So instead of using my 9.5 inch pie pan, I used two store-bought 8 inch graham cracker crusts. You can decide if you want to make two smaller pies or one big pie – there is no wrong answer. Or, you could ditch the crust all together and serve this as a pudding.

The funny thing is that I made this pie just days before traveling to Piedmont, which I learned is where Nutella is produced! Nutella was the solution to a major problem. Cocoa wasn’t easy to access during WWII and in order to make it last longer, the Italians started adding ground hazelnuts to chocolate. Hazelnuts grow well in Northern Italy, and they grow in shady areas where wine grapes can’t be grown so they don't need to give up precious land to grown them. Hazelnuts were easy to get, and they were the perfect delicious way to make the most of the chocolate that they could get.

Pour the whipping cream into the bowl of an electric mixer. Add the granulated sugar and vanilla. Beat on a higher speed until the cream is at the same stiffness you would want for whipped cream. I added the mini chocolate chips as a garnish, but I did really like how they added some texture to the Nutella pie. You could garnish with shaved chocolate, cocoa powder, or chopped hazelnuts.
