How is it August already? Can we get time to slow down a bit? In Chicago, we suffer through long brutal winters, and this inspires us to make the most of every summer – packing in as much activity as we can before we need to slip back into hibernation. Here is a little summary of what I have been up to:
This summer I went to two music festivals. My friends at Lakeshore Beverage gave me tickets to Pitchfork, so my friend Erin and I got to spend a day rocking out in the sun. My favorite act of the day? Schoolboy Q. I also ate some great tacos and drank wonderful beers from Goose Island.
Last Friday and Sunday, Charles and I went to Lollapalooza. It was our fifth time attending the festival, so at this point we are old pros. We can tell you that Eminem is a great performer who despite his attitude filled lyrics, really seemed to love being on stage. Newcomers Chvrches put on a great live show. Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue was the most unique and lively band we saw. And Glen Hansard lived up to my high expectations and proved to be a genuinely nice guy – he adorably invited his crew up the mic to sing a verse to thank them for their hard work. Sunday was a muddy day, but we made the most of it.
Check out the amazing braid I got at goldplaited before heading to Lolla on Sunday. I felt bad taking it out – but the one thing you need after a muddy day at Lolla is a hot shower.
Last week I spoke at Blend – a great monthly networking event. I spoke about Chicago food trends and explained that barbecue might just be the next big thing to hit Chicago. That, and we still really really love doughnuts. The event was held at The Bedford – which has a lounge in a former bank vault. (photos via Garbero Photography)
My darling friend Nicole hosted Blogging and Brunching, and I got to meet her pup Larry.
We had a blast at BLU, the Shedd Aquarium‘s annual fundraiser.
I saw many of my blogging friends at the CBN happy hour on Tuesday at River Roast. Beer and bloggers are two of my favorite things.
After the happy hour, Charles and I experienced a Chicago restaurant miracle, when we stopped into Bavettes just to see if we could get a table and one magically appeared. We had an impromptu 3 course dinner – I think Bavettes has the best steaks in Chicago, and look at the size of the fully loaded potato!
And last week my friends Monica and Arin hosted #YesWayRosé at new hotspot 52Eighty. Here I am with Nicole rocking some fun sunglasses.
