Sunday Scaries: the anxiety and dread of knowing the weekend is coming to an end.
For me, it’s knowing that during the weekdays I have Gwen solo all day and I won’t have time to get much done.
I don’t know where I heard this concept, but I love the idea of doing something for “future me”. Basically the idea is to take small actions that will make things easier for yourself in the future. Accomplishing tasks with future me in mind is one of the ways that I cure my Sunday Scaries.
Ways I Cure Sunday Scaries:
Go To Brunch
Sunday brunch (err, breakfast since we go at 9:30) is an essential part of our weekend routine. We love going to brunch because it’s better than the meal we would cook ourselves, it is fun and relaxing, and there is no mess for us to clean up. Less mess is a big win.
Meal Prep
When Charles used to go to an office, he would just grab lunch downtown. Now that he’s working from home permanently, I make him lunch. It’s a great way to save money (the cheapest to-go salads nearby are $12 each). Plus, this way we can make sure that the salads are truly healthy. On Sundays I prep Cobb Salads for Charles placing each one in a container with a spot for the dressing. I either prep some salads for myself, or I stock up on sandwich supplies so I can throw together something for myself.
While I always meal prep lunch on Sundays, when I want to feel extra on top of things, I add a couple meals to our freezer stash. Usually, I like to keep a couple of five veggies lasagnas, chili, and enchiladas in the freezer for busy days.
Grocery Shopping
I head to the grocery store to buy ingredients for the salads and I also buy everything I need to make a double batch of dinner on Monday night. This sausage farfalle recipe is quick and easy. It was one of my Mom’s go-to meals on busy nights.
Lay Out Outfits
We spend most days at home, but Gwen has music class on Monday mornings and we are always rushing to get out the door. Having outfits for us picked out helps make Mondays mornings smoother.
Wash My Hair
I wash my hair every 3 days or so. Going into the week with clean hair means I have one less thing to do on Monday.
Tackle a Project
There is always something. Cleaning out the fridge, cleaning the stroller, organizing a closet, putting toys away… I make a point to take on one of these tasks over the weekend.
Do Laundry
I love the sense of accomplishment that comes with washing a folding a load of laundry. Gwen likes to try to help me unload the machines and to climb into the laundry basket.
Wine
A glass of wine by the fire after dinner is my favorite way to relax before the week ahead.
Go To Bed Early
I think it is important to go into the week as well rested as possible – especially when you have teething toddler who might wake up in the middle of the night.
I don’t do all of these things each week – I mix it up and take on a couple things each weekend. My goal is to feel ready for the week ahead and not like I need to play catch up.
