This breakfast is something that most people enjoyed during their childhood, although everyone has a different name for it. I asked people over instagram what they call this dish and was fascinated by everyone’s answers. Answers included: eggs in a basket, toad in a whole, and birds in a basket. What do you call it?
Recently this has become my favorite pre-workout breakfast. I have found that this is just the right amount of food to eat before a morning workout. My goal is not to be full, because I don’t want to risk getting sick during the workout, but I don’t want to be hungry either. For me, one egg and one piece of toast is just right. Then I eat a bigger meal about an hour after hitting the gym.
You will need:
2 teaspoons Butter
1 piece of Bread
1 Egg
Step 1:
Find a glass that has about a 3 inch diameter. Use the glass to remove the center of the bread.
Step 2:
Heat a skillet over medium heat, and melt 1 teaspoon of butter. Add the bread. Then crack the egg into the center of the bread. Let cook for about 2 minutes.
Step 3:
Flip the bread and egg over, and add another teaspoon of butter to the skillet. Cook for another 1-2 minutes. The white of the egg will be cooked, but the yolk will be runny.

Egg in a hole! And the buttery, toasty circle is the best part. My parents used to scramble the egg in the hole for me, but now that I like runny yolks I make it over easy.
