A guide of what to do in Soho, Noho and Nolita, three smaller neighborhoods in Manhattan filled with trendy restaurants and stores. If you like shopping and eating, you can easily spend an entire weekend here.
Soho, Noho, and Nolita are in the lower section of Manhattan. Soho is short for South of Houston, Noho stands for North of Houston, and Nolita is North of Little Italy. Houston Street is major street running from east to west across Manhattan. It is the dividing point for several neighborhoods.
What to do in Soho, Noho and Nolita:
Shop on Broadway Street
Broadway Street is one of my favorite places to shop in Manhattan. There is a giant Uniqlo, a multilevel Bloomingdales, and an Aritzia flagship sprinkled in with smaller stores and boutiques.
The Vintage Twin
Located on Broadway, this shop sells a highly curated selection of vintage clothing. They have a large selection of denim.
Artists & Fleas
Also on Broadway, Artists & Fleas is part flea market, part thrift shop, and part artisan market.
Angelika Film Center & Café
A theater that shows popular movies and indie releases.
The Evolution Store
The Evolution Store specializes in selling specimens including preserved bugs, fossils, and taxidermy animals.
Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art
This museum displays the work of LGBTQ artists and shares exhibitions exploring LGBTQ themes. A large permanent collection includes the world of well-known gay artists including Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethrope, and David Hockney.
Puck Building
This historic building occupies an entire block between Lafayette, Houston, Mulberry, and Jersey Streets. You might recognize it from Will & Grace, an exterior shot of the building is used as the location of Grace’s office.
Museum of Chinese in America
This small museum educates the public on Chinese experiences in America.
Where to Eat and Drink in Soho, Noho and Nolita:
Dominique Ansel Bakery
Try a cronut at this famed bakery.
Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer
The name of this restaurant might seem focused on burgers and beer, but it’s known for serving over the top milkshakes. You have probably seen them on Instagram.
Balthazar
An iconic and elegant French Restaurant, this is a place to have a romantic date night. Balthazar is one of Manhattan’s most well-known restaurants, it’s been consistently popular for over 20 years. They are known for their steaks.
Pasquale Jones
A casual Italian place serving pizzas and pasta. This restaurant is small, and trendy, so a reservation is a must.
Goldbar
Gold are luxury are the themes of this bar in Nolita. It has 12 foot vaulted ceilings covered in gold leaf and crystal chandeliers. It also has golden skulls adorning the walls.
Rice to Riches
Grabbing dessert at this rice pudding place is a must. They flavors are always changing, so there is always something new to try.
Prince St. Pizza
Dozens of photos of celebrities line the walls of this beloved pizza joint that sells slices as well as whole pies. I love the pizza made with vodka sauce.
