Weekend Ready #5

Sharing is caring!

Have any of you been to Santa Fe? I have always wanted to go, and we are going there in two weeks to celebrate my 35th birthday. Yes, my birthday was in November and we are just now making the time to celebrate. Oops! I can’t wait to go to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and to experience some warm weather. If you have any Santa Fe recommendations, please share them in the comments.

And here is this week’s edition of Weekend Ready:

Read this …

How romantic is this? A man in Chicago shoveled a proposal into the snow at Millenium Park, which his girlfriend could see from her office. He wanted to propose on Valentine’s Day, but there was no snow, so he had to wait a little longer. He shoveled the letters out of order, which kept plenty of people in the nearby office towers guessing.

My friend Jenn has introduced me to Tide’s new laundry service. They handle dry cleaning and wash and fold laundry, all at one location!

I love Maya’s advice for what to do when you feel over your head at work.

If you live in Chicago, Lauren shared her favorite restaurants in North Center, Ravenswood, and Lincoln Square.

Paul started making travel guides, and so far he has covered New Orleans, Paris, Miami, and Kauai.

Spinach Artichoke Omelettes | These homemade cheesy Spinach Artichoke Omelettes are even better than a restaurant brunch.

Taste this …

Jenny’s Creamy Taco Pasta looks INSANE and I need it in my life ASAP!

Courtney’s Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Soup sounds amazing and it combines several of my favorite foods!

It’s going to be 19 degrees and snowing in Chicago on Sunday, so you might want to make these spinach artichoke omelets at home instead of going out for brunch.

Santorini Volcanic Terroir

Drink this …

My friend Lauren and I went to an event hosted by Santorini Volcanic Terroir and it was the perfect excuse to get out of the office on a Monday. Santorini is one of my favorite travel destinations, and I remember loving the wine when I was there. It turns out the wine is distinctive because of the island’s volcanic soil! Lauren and I especially loved the Santo Sparkling Wine and the Santorini Assyrtiko. Santorini is also known for producing small tomatoes which have a thick skin, ruffled shape, and a sweet taste, and fava, a superfood legume.

Watch this …

I didn’t come up with a clever theme for this week’s watch list. But here are some television shows and movies that I love.

Netflix:

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries – People loved this Australian show about a female detective in the 1920s so much that they crowd-funded a movie.

Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce – This series feels like a part two to Sex and the City. It’s fresh and smart, and I love when  Retta joins the cast in Season 2.

The Birdcage – The modern-day classic with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane always makes me laugh.

Jane the Virgin – Catch up with this sexy telenovela before the new season starts in March.

hulu:

Home Again – I liked this movie where Reese Witherspoon’s character ends up letting some cute college boys live in her guest house.

Wedding Crashers – A rom-com that even Charles will watch. Remember when Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn were in everything?

Sideways – This movie talked so much smack about Merlot that it hurt sales of the wine for years.

Drunk History – I am very embarrassed to admit how much I have learned by watching this show that pairs comedians telling a historical story with actors doing a silly reenactment. I especially like how the show shines a light on overlooked female historical figures.

Amazon Prime:

Four Weddings and a Funeral – Did you hear that they are making a mini-sequel of this film for Red Nose Day? Of course, I love a movie where Hugh Grant plays a charming Brit named Charles.

Wayne’s World – I loved that Mike Myers and Dana Carvey co-presented at the Oscars, and it reminded me of what a great 90s film this is!

The Grand Tour – You don’t have to be into cars to enjoy watching this show that blends cars, comedy, travel, and lots of hijinks. It used to be called Top Gear and was produced by BBC before making a move to Amazon.

On Demand:

A Simple Favor – This movie starring Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick, and Henry Golding keeps you on your toes, and I loved Lively’s menswear-inspired fashion throughout the film.

Bohemian Rhapsody – I’m still a little bummed that this didn’t win the Oscar for Best Picture.
