How to Roast Nuts

Nuts taste so much better when they are roasted, it adds flavor and crunch. For extra flavor you can add seasoning to nuts before they are roasted. Add salt, butter and honey, cinnamon and brown sugar, cayenne pepper, or curry. Get creative.

Heat your oven to 350 degrees and spread nuts out on a baking sheet. Nuts cook very quickly - and burn easily, so check on them after 3 minutes. You want them to be slightly browned. Nuts are done roasted as soon as you can smell them. Smaller nuts like pine nuts or slivered almonds will be done in 3 minutes, larger nuts like walnuts will take about 5 minutes.

Roasted pine nuts are great on pasta dishes. Toasted almonds are wonderful on top of cakes. Roasted walnuts can be used to top salads.
