Feeling Fly, a Flywheel Update!

Published: Mar 29, 2017 by Kit · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Know what makes working out more fun? Working out with friends. Charles has been joining me for a weekend Flywheel class for months now, but recently I have been hitting weekday classes with my friends Lauren and Danielle. When you commit to going to a class with a friend (or two!) you can't back out, and it turns the workout into something you look forward to!

I have been going to several Flywheel spin classes a week since last summer, but this month Lauren and Danielle convinced me to give Flybarre another try. The class is seriously challenging. I realized that I have been focusing solely on cardio, and not on toning my muscles. When it comes to our workout preferences, Lauren prefers barre and I prefer spin, but we have been pushing each other to mix up our workouts more so that we are balancing cardio with toning and stretching. It is also great to try a new workout with a friend who is an old pro at it. I probably spent half of today's barre class looking over at Lauren trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing!

It probably isn't a coincidence that I have acheiving my highest Flywheel power scores since I started to incorporate barre into my workout schedule. (A power score is a number based on your resistence level and speed, and I love how power scores help you to track your progress over time - it gives me extra motivation).

Another thing that has been working in my favor is that Lauren likes the 8:30 am classes. I never get out of bed before 8:30 on my own. Scheduling an 8:30 class with Lauren gets me out of bed, and I am done with a workout at 9:15. Usually, I am just brushing my teeth then! I feel like I have snuck a workout into my schedule without taking time away from anything else. It's such a win!

On days when I need a little extra boost of energy I swing by Real Good Juice Co for a smoothie. It's right next to the Old Town Flywheel/Flybarre studio, and I have a thing for their Wendy Peffercorn Smoothie. It's made with mango, strawberry, camu camu, lemonade, and mint, and it is fruity and refreshing, and it helps make up for the fact that I don't eat enough fruit.

Have you tried spin or barre classes? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!

I am excited to be a Flywheel Ambassador – and if you are in Chicago and want to go to a class at the Old Town studio together let me know!
