Exploring Santa Monica

Santa Monica 10

A couple of weeks ago my friends Jocelyn, Lauren, and I went to LA for a press trip with Jewel-Osco. I had never been to LA, and I was excited to explore. Lucky for me, Jocelyn knows all about the best places to eat in LA and together we devised a plan. Instead of flying out for just a night, we made it into a 4 day trip, and the main activity was eating.

When we arrived in LA the first thing that we did was go to Sidecar Doughnuts. Yeah, I know, some people would have went to see the Hollywood sign, gone to see the stars on walk of fame at the Chinese Theater, or shopped on Rodeo Drive. But, doughnuts were our number one priority.

Sidecar makes doughnuts right in front of you, and some of them were still warm. Even though there were only 3 of us... we might have ordered 7 doughnuts. The sign of a great doughnut shop is that everyone has a different favorite doughnut.

Santa Monica-3

I loved the "Choc A Lot" a triple chocolate doughnut which was warm and had gooey frosting. Lauren loved the Huckleberry which tasted like a muffin, and Jocelyn loved the Strawberry which perfectly captured the juiciness of fresh strawberries. The Meyer Lemon was wonderfully sweet and tart, and the Maple Bacon was a nice mix of sweet, salty, and meaty.

Next we needed to walk off the fact that we ate 7 doughnuts for lunch, so we headed to Santa Monica Pier. It was a beautiful warm sunny day, and we were excited to take some outfit photos for Lauren's site.

But, somehow, the pier and beach were enveloped in fog, so our photos didn't turn out quite as we had hoped.

After lots of taking many photos, we went to get coffee. And of course, we turned around, looked back at the pier, and all the fog had cleared!

Our last stop in Santa Monica was Joan's on Third, a cafe with the most gorgeous sweets. I grabbed an iced chai latte since the 6am wake up time that was necessary to catch our flight was making me feel a bit sluggish.

Santa Monica-11

I had to stop myself from buying all the candy which was so beautifully packaged.

Then we headed back to our hotel. We stayed at the Andaz West Hollywood, which has the most gorgeous rooftop pool.

Next week I will tell you all about where we ate in LA! (You probably shouldn't read that if you are hungry).
