Date Night at Block 37

Block 37-10

Ready for the ultimate low key, yet really fun, date night? Recently Charles and I met up at Block 37 to spend some time together since we have both been traveling so much lately, and we want to take advantage of opportunities when we are both in town. When he wanted to do dinner and a movie, I knew that Block 37 was the perfect destination.

Block 37-6

First are foremost, Block 37 has amazing food and the absolute best movie theater in Chicago. Plus, there is shopping and easy access to public transportation - the red and blue lines stop in the basement, and the brown line is a block away. There is a lot to explore and we did a little bit of everything.

Block 37

Our date night began with a bit of browsing at Anthropology and Bucketfeet - two of my favorite shops in Block 37. I also frequent the Sephora and Akira, and I am excited for the bigger and better Zara to reopen in the fall.

Block 37 latinicity

Next we went up to the third floor to have dinner at Latinicity. I've mentioned Latinicity here before, because I truly love it. Latinicity has 10 counters each specializing in a different type of Latin cuisine, plus a full bar.

Block 37-4

Charles got three different tacos (chicken, beef, and pork), while I ordered from Chaufa - a counter that makes Peruvian style stir fry dishes. I love the Lomo Saltado which has hanger steak, tomatoes, onion, egg noodles, and french fries. We both got cocktails from the bar - I am a big fan of the sangria and Charles likes the margarita. Dinner at Latinicity was quick and easy and we both got exactly what we wanted.

Block 37-7

Then it was time for our movie. We saw Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and I know it has received mixed reviews but we loved it. If you are a fan of Andy Sandberg and the Lonely Island digital shorts, you will love it. We laughed so much that I think it could be considered an ab workout. I have been doing my best to spread the word about the AMC Dine In Theater on the fourth floor of Block 37 - because it has smaller theaters, reserved seating, plush recliners, a full dinner and drinks menu, and there is a button at your seat that will signal a server who will come take your order - so when you need another beer mid-movie, it's just a button away. Charles was skeptical when I first took him to this theater, but now it is the only theater he will go to.

Block 37-9

The night ended with dessert at Magnolia Bakery. Charles had the chocolate cheesecake and I had a vanilla cupcake with chocolate butter cream frosting (and maybe a few bites of Charles's cheesecake). It was the perfect way to end the evening.

Block 37's address is 108 North State Street. It's a block from the brown line, and the red and blue lines stop in the basement.
