Every once in a while, I will indulge in a cocktail. Most of the time I simply drink beer or wine, but I love the ritual of making a cocktail and the sound of the shaker. It's fun. And it feels so very adult and fancy. Cocktails seems more celebratory than a beer, and a cocktail on the roof with a view of Chicago's skyline seemed like the perfect way to mark my 6 year anniversary of moving to Chicago.
Recently my friend Samantha and I went to a cocktail class taught by Femme Du Coupe, where I discovered the delicious combination of blackberries and bourbon. Based on the skills and recipes that I learned in the class, I created my own blackberry bourbon cocktail. The end result is a cocktail with blackberries, bourbon, lemon, ginger ale, and a touch of rosemary. I think that the flavors are perfect for this time of year, it is still summery, but not overly so.
You will need (for each cocktail):
¼ cup Ginger Ale
4 Blackberries
1.5 ounces of Makers Mark Bourbon
1 slice of Lemon
Rosemary
½ cup of Ice
Step 1:
Pour the ginger ale into a glass.
Step 2:
Combine all other ingredients in a shaker. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
Step 3:
Strain the contents of the shaker into the glass with the ginger ale. Enjoy!

I haven't had a good blackberry cocktail in a while and I love that it's carbonated. :) Trying this ASAP!
