Things I Love About Our New Home

Sharing is caring!

I wanted to share a few things that I love about our new home – I thought that it might be helpful to those of you who are renovating or building homes.

Since we made a commitment to buy the home before construction, we got to make some changes and upgrades to the design. We didn’t get to design the home from scratch, but we could make certain changes. We decided to take down a wall between the kitchen and living room giving us a more open floorplan. With the wall out of the way, we were able to add about two and a half feet to the kitchen island giving us room for five stools and extra cabinet space. The other big change was adding a wet bar to the rooftop.

We moved in last month and I have been focused on unpacking, decorating, and settling in. We waited over a year for our home to be built which gave me plenty of time to plan out how I wanted to decorate. I will be sharing details on how I decorated each room, but until then here are a few things that we really love about our new home.

Things I Love:

The Fireplace:

Adding a fireplace was one of the big customizations that we requested. It’s the centerpiece of the living room and I love how the tile surround matches the backslash in the kitchen.

The Thicker Quartz on the Kitchen Island:

I love this look! This was something that Charles chose and I am so happy with the decision.

The Viking Oven:

It preheats quickly and the oven racks pull out so smoothly. I also love that it has six burners.

Heated Bathroom Floors:

What a delight! This was an upgrade and not a cheap one, but it’s so nice to have warm floors. It’s funny because we are not used to them – our muscle memory is to brace ourselves for cold floors – and then we are pleasantly surprised when they are nice and warm! I love sitting on a warm floor when I give Gwen her bath.

The Rain Shower:

This is one of Charles’s favorite things about the new home.

Things I Am Not Sure About:

The Drawer Microwave:

I think it is going to be hard to clean.

The Pocket Door in the Primary Bathroom:

It is louder than a normal door, which is a little annoying since Charles and I have different sleep schedules.

I am so excited to show you more of our new home. Some rooms are nearly done – the primary bedroom and Gwen’s room just need light fixtures. Other rooms… have some more work to do. Stay tuned for more!
