You know Aperol Spritzes, the somewhat divisive cocktail made with a bitter Italian spirit, but do you know Lemon Spritzes? A Lemon Spritz is made just like an Aperol Spritz, but instead of using Aperol it is made with Limoncello!

A lemon spritz is light and refreshing. It’s made with just three ingredients: limoncello, prosecco, and soda water. It takes just a minute to mix together, and it can be made in a big pitcher or individually. I am sharing the recipe for making a pitcher of Lemon Spritzes below, but you can make them individually by pouring half a glass of prosecco, adding a shot of limoncello, a splash of soda water, and some ice cubes.

Lemon Spritzes taste like an effervescent lemonade. It’s the type of drink that cools you down on a hot summer day. The Lemon Spritzes that I had in Italy were strong, I toned down my version to make it a little more drinkable. But, you can always add more limoncello if you prefer your drinks to be on the stronger side. I recommend using a prosecco that isn’t too sweet. Pick a dryer prosecco to prevent the spritzes from being too sweet.

I discovered Lemon Spritzes when I was on the Amalfi Coast, a part of Italy known for producing lemons! Lemons are king in that part of Italy. You see gigantic lemons everywhere, and vendors sell lemon granitas in huge lemons in city squares. You can even get the granita with limoncello in it.

I tried it all. I paid a ridiculous amount to have a lemon granita served out of a lemon the size of a small cantaloupe in Capri and I sipped a Lemon Spritz on the beach in Positano. Luckily I learned how to make lemon spritzes so that I can enjoy a taste of Italy now that I am back in Chicago.
