Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwiches are a show-stopping treat that is quick and easy to prepare! I’ve teamed up with my friends at Hudsonville Ice Cream to share this recipe made with some of my favorite ice cream flavors.
I love this time of year. The weather is warm and not too hot or humid. It makes me want to savor every moment and opportunity to create memories outside. I am trying to spend as much time as possible on our freshly furnished rooftop. We have been hanging out there most nights after Gwen goes to bed either spending time with friends and neighbors or watching a movie with our new projector.
When we host guests, I love to serve something special which is where these doughnut ice cream sandwiches come in. They are a fun seasonal treat that can be made with just minutes of preparation time!
What I love about this dessert is that you can get creative with the flavor pairings. I picked up chocolate glazed, pistachio, taffy apple, and toffee doughnuts from a local doughnut shop and I paired them with three of my favorite Hudsonville Ice Cream Flavors: Creamery Blend Vanilla, Butter Pecan, and Baked Apple Crisp.
These toffee doughnuts have Creamery Blend Vanilla ice cream in the center, while the taffy apple doughnuts below are filled with baked apple crisp ice cream.
I say this all the time: Hudsonville’s Creamery Blend Vanilla is the best. It’s a classic! It’s such a classic that it is made with Hudsonville Ice Cream’s base recipe from 1926! It is packed with vanilla flavor and it has an extra creamy taste and consistency. In addition to being delicious on its own, this flavor works well in recipes and scooped on top of pies. It’s hands down the best vanilla and it elevates any dessert! It’s always in my freezer (Chicagoans – it’s at Jewel-Osco or just use the Scoop Locator to find Hudsonville Ice Cream near you). Plus, it is delicious with any doughnut flavor.
How to Make Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwiches:
To prepare the ice cream sandwiches, just slice the doughnuts in half and add a scoop of ice cream. You want a nice thick layer of ice cream. Then add the top of the doughnut to create the ice cream sandwich. Serve right away.
It is best to make this dessert and to serve it immediately so that the doughnuts don’t get stale. You can even let your guests choose their doughnut and ice cream combination!
Another reason why I love this dessert idea is that it can be gluten-free! Many doughnut shops offer gluten-free doughnuts and many Hudsonville Ice Cream flavors are gluten-free! Just look for the GF symbol on the top of the carton.
Of course, Gwen was excited to taste test so we gave her a couple bites. Look at how focused she is on getting her hands on one of the doughnut ice cream sandwiches.
