Looking for a baby shower gift or a gift for a new mom? Here are my picks.
Since Gwen entered the world, I have received many messages from people asking for help selecting gifts for friends who are expecting. I’ve gathered up some of my favorite gift ideas here. These gifts are thoughtful and all under $100 – many are under $20. I’ve divided this list into two sections, gifts for the baby and gifts for the Mom.
Gifts for the Baby
A Letterboard
My friend Jenn gave me this pink letterboard which I used to help announce Gwen’s arrival. You can also use it to take monthly photos. If your friend is having a boy or hasn’t announced the gender, colors other than pink are available.
Baby Headbands
These headbands are so darling – and affordable! There are so many things on an expectant parent’s mind that finding cute accessories for photos doesn’t make it to the top of the list – I bought these headbands super last minute for our newborn photos – but it would have been cute to have them for our very first photos at the hospital. This brand sells sets of 3 headbands for $15 – and they didn’t slip off Gwen’s head during photos.
Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls
This is my go-to gift for friends that have girls. I even bought a case of these books along with some mailers to make gift giving easy. I love this book (and the sequel) because it features one-page stories about important and inspirational women along with beautiful illustrations. Each sturdy hardcover book features 100 women – the first edition includes Coco Chanel, Jane Austen, Michelle Obama, and the Williams sisters.
Milestone Pennants
This set of 14 little pennants mark each month of the baby’s first year and includes pennants that say Hello World and My First Birthday. I bought a set with girly colors, but they have gender-neutral and black and white options.
Milestone Blankets
There are dozens of options available on Amazon – these super soft blankets are a fun way to take monthly – or weekly – photos of your baby.
A Baby Book
This Artifact Uprising Baby Book is beautiful and captures memories without being overly cheesy.
A LLBean Tote
The classic LLBean tote bag comes in so many sizes and colors and you can customize it with adding the baby’s monogram or name. Our friends Gretchen and Peter gave us one of the large totes and it’s ideal for toy storage or using as luggage.
Gifts for Mom
The Fridamom Delivery and Postpartum Kit
This kit has everything from a super soft hospital gown and grippy socks for delivery to everything a new mom needs to help soothe her body and to help her recover.
Initial Necklace
A beautiful multicolor gemstone initial necklace at a price that won’t break the bank.
A Bracelet with the Baby’s Name
These bracelets are super trendy right now – and wearing your child’s name on your wrist is such a cute way to keep them with you at all times. A friend of mine gifted me a bracelet with Gwendolyn’s name on it and I wear it every day.
The Gift of Time
Offer to watch the baby so she can go get a much-needed mani-pedi, let her have a date night with her partner, or just bring over some takeout and spend some time with her.
