Last Friday night, my friend Jocelyn (of the fabulous Grand-Baby Cakes) hosted A Charitable Confection. The event brought local bakeries together to raise money for Project Orange Tree. Project Orange Tree is a group that promotes anti-violence through involving teens in urban gardening projects and giving them an after school activity.
I was so impressed by the event and the spirit and energy radiating from everyone there. Jocelyn is one of the most delightful people I know. She brought so much to this event and I think that she created a memorable event that gained momentum for an important cause.
The event has a mix of local bakers selling items to go – it was the most sophisticated bake sale I have ever seen, and bakeries giving out samples. We sampled away and bought treats to take home. I may have eaten sweets until I started to get a slight tummy ache. Jocelyn is definitely onto something with the dessert and cocktail party concept.
I want to congratulate Jocelyn (with me in the photo above) on all of her hard work and for making A Charitable Confection such a success.
Heartbreakingly, the anti-violence event was marked by violence. Upon arriving home from the event, A Charitable Confection committee member Leonore Draper was shot and killed by a stray bullet from a drive by shooting.
