The Inn of Five Graces in Santa Fe is an exceptional hotel featuring unique interior design with incredible attention to detail.
Some hotels are a complete experience and The Inn of Five Graces offered us so much to discover. Our stay at the property combined luxurious accommodations and memorable design with exceptional hospitality. Having the hotel as our home base made it easy to fall in love with Santa Fe.
The Inn of Five Graces is owned by the Ira and Sylvia Seret, a couple who also owns an enormous home décor and architectural design store in downtown Santa Fe. Ira spent a significant amount of time in Afghanistan and he became known for bringing Afghan textiles to America. Later, he was the first designer to use rugs to upholster furniture, and you can find chairs and couches upholstered with colorful patterned rugs and carpets throughout the hotel property.
Over 25 years ago, the Serets purchased several neighboring neglected traditional adobe homes and turned them into 24 luxurious suites filled with handmade artisan treasures collected from the Silk Road.
Each suite is uniquely decorated with patterned textiles, mosaic bathrooms, woodwork, and furniture. Sylvia created the mosaics in the bathrooms and kitchens, and she spent six months tiling one of the bathrooms. The hotel is a labor of love that showcases the Serets’ eye and talent for design.
Not only is the hotel filled with incredible design, the staff goes the extra mile to make guests feel at home. The day we arrived in Santa Fe we had woken up at 4 am to catch our flight. By the time we made it to the hotel, we were hungry. It was a little past breakfast time at the hotel but they very kindly served us anyway. It was a lovely way to welcome us.
Charles used the American Express’s Fine Hotel and Resorts booking platform to make our reservation, and as a perk, we got a room upgrade. We stayed in the Firebird Suite, a large one-bedroom suite with two fireplaces, two bathrooms, a small kitchen, a large sitting room, an alcove with a desk, and a big bedroom. It was larger than some of the apartments I have lived in.
After quickly settling into our room, it was time to go to the spa for a massage. The Tibetan style spa on the property is an oasis of calm, and the massage therapists combined aromatherapy with exfoliation and hydration treatments.
Staying at the Inn of Five Graces felt like we were staying with someone who knew us well. The fridge in our room was stocked with some of our favorite things like brie and San Pellegrino Limonata. When we returned to the room at night there were cookies waiting for us.
A Scrabble board was sitting by the fireplace. After days of exploring, Charles would make a fire and I would snack on cookies while we played Scrabble. (Random Kit and Charles fact: we love Scrabble but never play it at home for fear that Scrabble battles would ruin our relationship – Scrabble is for vacations).
Each day started with breakfast at the hotel. The menu was excellent and I would go to bed excited about the breakfast I was going to try the next morning. Plus, we had the option of having breakfast delivered to our room for no charge.
Over the course of our stay, I tried the breakfast burrito, served wet with Christmas chile, huevos rancheros, and magic grits with cheese, bacon, and chile. Each breakfast was so wonderful that I know I will miss them. I am going to do my best to recreate the magic grits, wish me luck.
We arrived on a Friday, which just happens to be the day of the week that the hotel hosts a wine and cheese happy hour. Again, it was as if the hotel knew all of our favorite things.
While four days was plenty of time to see Santa Fe, I could have stayed at the Inn of Five Graces longer. I kept discovering new things during my time at the hotel. And I loved the abundance of brightly colored textiles.
American Express Platinum doesn’t sponsor my work, but my sister does work at Amex and she convinced us to get the card because of its travel benefits. When you book using the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts platform you get perks including early check in, late check out, daily breakfast, and credit to use the amenities. If available, you also get a complimentary upgrade. All of these perks made our getaway so much better.
This post is not sponsored I just love sharing exceptional hotels with you.
