It’s doesn’t seem fair that it is Labor Day weekend already. Weren’t we just celebrating Memorial Day? I have been trying to take a break from work to soak in the last bits of sunshine. Food festival season is at it’s peak with Chicago Food + Wine just passed and Oyster Fest, Chicago Gourmet, and Taste Talks on the horizon. Let’s take a look back at the past couple of weeks…
I co-hosted the Malibu Rum and Refinery 29 Beach House Party. A Lincoln Park townhouse was transformed into a beach house with deejays, snacks from Publican Quality Meats, and bartenders mixing up rum drinks.
The next day I joined friends at another Malibu Rum x Refinery 29 party on the Tall Ship Windy.
WCBC hosted it’s monthly happy hour at LYFE Kitchen in Streeterville, where I discovered their delicious mushroom flatbread, and edamame hummus. LYFE Kitchen has several locations in Chicago and they all focus on healthy nutritious food prepared in fun ways. They have skinny cocktails too! I definitely recommend checking it out!
I joined the Tessemae’s team at Crop Circles Chicago, an event that brought free produce to Englewood, an in-need food desert neighborhood.
We brunched at Publican with friends, where I had a pork shoulder and peach breakfast with cornbread and a fried egg. The menu changes all the time, so unfortunately I can’t promise that you can try it.
I hosted a girls night and made cupcakes from my friend Jocelyn’s new cookbook, Grandbaby Cakes. The book comes out Sept 15th and it is gorgeous!
Charles and I watched our Red Sox defeat the White Sox. Going to the Sox vs. Sox games is a tradition of ours.
I participated in a photo shoot for Felix Magazine as part of an upcoming project.
And then discovered the Rose Slushies at Expat – you need to try these before Expat closes for the season.
I loved the Chicago Food + Wine Festival, and spent last weekend there.
A group of my friends and I had an incredible family style, multi course brunch at Formento’s – I will share details soon, but you definitely need to visit Formento’s.
And my friend Jena featured me on her beyond chic fashion site Chi City Fashion.
If you are in Chicago next Friday, you need to come to Oyster Fest! You can buy tickets here, and use the code KITTCHEN between now and Monday at 10am to get $10 off your ticket! In addition to an assortment of fresh oysters and seafood, there will also be food for ‘land lovers’ from Bub City, Shake Shack, and Summer House. And, St. Lucia is headlining – so it is a concert too.
Plus – Culinary Care, a non profit that provides complementary meals to in need cancer patients and their families is hosting their inaugural cook off fundraiser on October 17th. Culinary Care got their start 2 years ago and has already brought 3,600 meals to patients and their families. You can use the discount code WCBCCooks to get $10 off tickets to the event.
And, don’t forget to enter to win a pair of tiki mugs from Three Dots and a Dash!
