Homemade pita chips are easy to make in just a few minutes of active preparation time. I love to make parmesan garlic pita chips to serve with spinach artichoke dip, but they are delicious on their own too. Get the simple recipe below.
I have been making homemade pita chips since I lived with my parents. It used to be my job to make pita chips when my parents were having a party. I have updated the recipe over the years to make it even better, while keeping the active preparation time under 10 minutes and keeping the total preparation time to under 30 minutes.
Making these pita chips is similar to making garlic bread. You mix room temperature butter with garlic, fresh chopped basil, parmesan, and a touch of salt and pepper. Then you spread a layer of this seasoned butter on both sides of pita bread, cut the pita into triangles, and then roast the chips for about 10 minutes a side. It is easy and you can make a batch as small or as big as you like.
The number one reason to make homemade pita chips is because you can serve them warm. Pita chips taste best when they are warm and fresh out of the oven.
My favorite combination of seasonings for homemade pita chips is parmesan, basil and garlic, but you can get creative and try other toppings like lemon juice, chili flakes, cinnamon sugar, or barbecue spices. To make pita chips with these ingredients, still use butter as the base, stir in the flavoring, and then spread it over the pitas.
Homemade pita chips do tend to get stale if they sit out too long. I recommend making these the day that you want to eat them. It is definitely best to make them, serve them warm, and eat them right away.
