Chicago is the “city of neighborhoods” and this collection of Chicago neighborhood guides will help you explore some of Chicago’s most iconic neighborhoods.
These guides are the result of living in Chicago for 12 years. I also visited each neighborhood on a research mission to see what was new.
Chicago Neighborhood Guides
What to do in Downtown Chicago/The Loop
Chicago’s downtown is called The Loop and it is where you will find the city’s theater district, museums, and grandest parks.
What to do in the West Loop
The West Loop is famous for its restaurants and any visitor to Chicago needs to come here to dine at Girl & The Goat, taste the Au Cheval burger, or feast at the new Time Out Market.
What to do in Old Town
This neighborhood really feels like a neighborhood, it’s also home to some of the city’s best comedy clubs.
What to do in Lincoln Park
The neighborhood shares its name with Chicago’s largest park. Lincoln Park is a more residential neighborhood with excellent restaurants and shopping.
What to do in Lakeview
Lakeview is home of the Chicago Cubs and going to Wrigley Field is a must for anyone coming to Chicago. If you aren’t a baseball fan, concerts take place there too!
What to do in Wicker Park
Known for being Chicago’s “hipster” neighborhood, Wicker Park has a vibe all its own. I recommend spending a least a night checking out bars and restaurants here. Or spend a sunny afternoon on the Big Star patio.
What to do in River North
The neighborhood on the north side of the Chicago River has dozens of restaurants and a very lively nightlife.
What to do in Streeterville
Streeterville is where you will find the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier.
What to do in the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is known for its luxury shopping and elegant homes.
