Heat your oven to 350 degrees, and then start cooking the beef. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and add the beef. Season the beef with salt and pepper, and use a wooden spoon to break the beef into smaller pieces. Cook until the beef is no longer pink.
Next, assemble the layer of the dip. I used a glass bread pan to prepare and serve the dip, but you could opt to use a large shallow dish. Start by adding a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of the dish. Then add the beef, and top with another thin layer of sauce.
Next spread a layer of ricotta on top. Then add the spinach, half of the mozzarella, the pesto, and the remaining mozzarella.
Bake for 20-30 minutes, until the mozzarella on the top has browned. Serve with the fresh basil on top, and with bruschetta toasts on the side.
