How to Make Risotto

Ever wondered how to make risotto? Today I will teach you how to make risotto with these detailed step by step instructions. I first learned to make risotto a few years ago, and now it is one of my go-to meals.

Cuisine Italian
Cook Time 25 minutes
Servings 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Arborio Rice per serving
  • Chicken or Vegetable Broth about 1 1/2 cups per serving
  • 1 tablespoon of Butter
  • Salt
  • Add-ins: Cheese Sauteed Vegetables, Chicken

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the broth until it is steaming.
  2. Melt the butter in a pot over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the risotto.
  3. Stir the risotto in the melted butter for 2-3 minutes, until it is very lightly browned.

  4. Spoon enough broth into the pot so that the risotto is just covered. Let the risotto simmer in the broth, stirring it occasionally with a wooden spoon.
  5. Let simmer until the risotto has absorbed all of the broth.
  6. Then spoon in more broth until the risotto is just covered again.

  8. Again, spoon more broth over the risotto, just barely covering it.

  9.  Once the risotto has absorbed the broth, taste it to make sure that it has cooked enough. Then season with salt, and add in any vegetables and cheese that you like.

  10. I added in 1 cup of sauteed mushrooms, 1/2 cup of sauteed asparagus, and 2 ounces of goat cheese. This is a good ratio for 1/2 cup of dry Aborio Rice.

Recipe Notes

1/4 cup of dry risotto makes just enough for 1 serving. The instructions below are for 2 servings of risotto, but you can easily scale the recipe to feed more people.
