Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie

Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie

My struggle to eat breakfast on weekdays is well documented. When it comes down to it, the problem is that I just really love to sleep, and I would rather sleep more and skip breakfast than wake up earlier to eat it. Lately I have been trying out a new routine. I have been going to Pure Barre and getting a workout in first thing in the morning (which for me is 8:30am since I go to bed so late), and then after the class I make myself a smoothie at home and get to work. Starting my day off with a workout and a healthy meal has been a positive change in my routine which previously didn’t involve working out but did involve some questionable breakfast choices.

By making my smoothies myself I am able to completely customize them. While grocery stores do sell frozen mixes of fruit for smoothies, I like to buy bags of individually frozen fruit to blend my own flavors. Right now I am loving smoothies made with frozen strawberries, raspberries, and peaches with peach yogurt and a touch of cranberry juice. It’s fruity and creamy, and the cranberry juice balances out the sweeter fruits. I am not a big fan of banana, but if you are, go ahead and add it. I would recommend freezing the bananas since they get really creamy when they are frozen and then mixed in a blender.

The yogurt make this smoothie creamy, while also adding protein and fiber. I think it turns the smoothie into more of a meal. I picked peach yogurt, but you can choose any flavor you like. I think that Chobani’s raspberry and dark chocolate yogurt would be an easy way to make a more indulgent. You really can’t go wrong, and the concept is simple, throw a couple of handfuls of frozen fruit, a small tub of yogurt, and a bit of juice into a blender and you will have a simple, delicious, and healthy meal or snack. If you make smoothies at home, I would love to hear about your favorite flavor combinations – let me know in the comments!

I know I have said this before, but in case anyone is curious, I have this KitchenAid blender, and it has been able to tackle every task I have thrown at it.
