Christmas in Maine and my Minted Holiday Cards

Charles and I arrived in Kennebunkport, Maine on Friday night. We headed to my family’s inn, the Kilburn House where we met up with my siblings.

On Saturday morning we woke up to a blanket of fresh snow on the ground and steady flurries falling from the sky. It was as if someone placed Kennebunkport in a snowglobe. Kennebunkport is already one of the cutest towns I have ever seen, and snow makes it even more adorable.

Kelly, Charles, and I set off on foot to Dock Square and it was the perfect place to take some photos. While in town we picked up essentials (coffee and beer) before heading home. My parents were throwing a big party that night so we needed to get back and help out in the kitchen.

This year we are in Maine for 9 days, so I planned a couple of side trips for us. First, we went up to Bath where my brother and his girlfriend live. Bath is a scenic little town and the home of Bath Iron Works, a shipyard that builds Destroyers for the Navy, which is where my brother works. We explored Main Street before heading to the Boothbay Botanical Garden for their holiday lights exhibition.

It was similar to zoo lights, but with even more lights that were carefully and colorfully decorating hundreds of trees. We had dinner at Beale Street Barbecue and dined at Mae’s Cafe the next morning. Then we went shopping at L.L.Bean in Freeport before making our way to Portland, which is where we are today. Our side trips have been a way to break up our time in Maine while exploring new things, and it’s such a treat to spend this much time in Maine during the holidays.

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is giving and receiving holiday cards. I am from one of those families that mails out a photo card every year. Now Charles and I send out our own photo cards, and we are included in my parents’ holiday card too. For the past few years, we have been using Minted for our cards. I love how many options there are so that we can send out a card with just the right look and message. I think that the “Oh what fun” message fits this photo perfectly.

I had a tough time picking a photo for this year’s holiday card. We did joke about sending out a card with a stunt baby on it just to confuse people, but we decided on using one of our favorite travel photos from the year. This is a photo from glacier climbing excursion in Iceland, and I am so pleased with how the card turned out.

I was happy to have all of our holiday cards sent out before we arrived in Maine, so now I can focus on enjoying some puppy cuddles.
